Imagine what it would be like to be the first man on the moon Imagine what it would be like to be the first man with a spoon Imagine what it would be like to like a fire (something something something) [ Ed. linguists are unsure what Clement Moffitt sang here - please see more detailed explanation in the lyrics of "To Infinity and Beyond (We Can Do It) !" ] Then imagine what it would be like to be the first man on the moon

Werner Von Braun He’s a rocket man Werner Von Braun If you want to get to the moon He’s the man you need He made the V2s fly to London He’s the rocket science geek Bit of a Nazi so to speak His excuses were rather weak But as the race begins quite soon Forget that and go for the moon

[Ed. Clement Moffits's original lyric line is unclear in this recording, and as Clem never wrote down any of his lyrics, we have to best-guess what he was saying from the hindsight of retrospect] Tonight ladies and gentlemen, reptiles and shoes The Power of Source is here to take you To infinity To infinity To infinity And beyond To infinity To infinity To infinity And beyond Quasars quarks and laser beams Figments of my acid dreams Always waking up in screams Dreams, beams, themes, I'm fishing breams To infinity To infinity To infinity And beyond To infinity To infinity To infinity And beyond Speed up to increase your orbit Move over honey that's a sore bit Slow down to get down get down Will I ever reach the ground? Will I ever reach the ground?

And in the end How did we fend My earthbound friend In the end? Was it worth the fight This stupendous flight To gather up some rocks For atomic clocks And in the end What did we learn The earth is very small In comparison to it all We'd better get along If we want to hear another song Or revel in the new dawn's light And in the end How did we fend In the end My earthbound friend?

about

POWER OF SOURCE

The album 'The Apollo Stars' by the English rock band Power of Source, was first released in September 1969, just a few months after NASA's triumphant moon landings.

Power of Source formed at Kingston Technical College in southwest London, England, in 1961. Lead singer Clement “Clem” Moffitt already had a Bachelor's degree in physics, and was studying for a Master's in orbital mechanics when he gathered together 7 musically-inclined science undergraduates to create what he predicted would be 'the greatest and best-qualified pro-physics rock group of all time”.

After an unsteady start touring local pubs and clubs, Power of Source gradually began gather a solid fan-base, and entered the UK singles charts in 1963 with the song 'Peanuts Envy', which paid homage to Charles Schulz's famous cartoon strip, 'Peanuts'.

The unintentionally provocative title of this song caused the group to be banned from many of the more conservative concert venues in the UK, including London's famous Royal Albert Hall, but this minor setback did little to slow their rise to country-wide stardom.

As 'Beatlemania' began to take hold in the United States, record industry giant RCA were quick to see the potential of Power of Source, and signed them to their artist roster in January 1965.

Power of Source began their first US tour in 1966, supporting RCA label-mates The Rolling Stones on the infamous 'Bite Your Tongue' tour. The following year, Power of Source were back in the States with their own headlining tour, which culminated in the riotous Madison Square Garden 'Rocket Science For Rebels' concert.

In 1967, Power of Source met Timothy Leary during a backstage party in Springfield MA, and like many other groups of that era, they began experimenting with psychedelic drugs and psychedelic rock, later releasing their seminal 4-disc 'Quadrophonic Spacebats' LP on the Polydor label. The LPs had to be played on two separate record decks simultaneously, giving a true surround-sound effect, the first of its kind in 1969.

By September 1969, the golden days of the 'swinging 60s' were drawing rapidly to a close, and like their Polydor compatriots Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Power of Source were trying to bring themselves back down to earth and recapture the standard hard-rocking physics-based sound that had made them famous.

'The Apollo Stars' is the last of Power of Source's studio albums. Its 'half-finished' feel shows a once-great band in tragic decline. Studio arguments are captured on tape, feedback wails unchecked, and in the end the only man left standing was bassist Roger Waters, who went on to find even greater success in Pink Floyd.

Still, as Clem would say, 'forget all that boring history, man', and listen to Power of Source, digitally remastered by Ian Paisley-Tie at the famous Thanet Sound studios.
